What does

BREXIT, Brexit, Brexit...that word we've been hearing for the past three years.

Now that we edge closer to the UK's exit from the EU, it's time to really understand what Brexit actually means for students currently on placements across Europe.

First of all, you shouldn't be treated any differently and your placement should remain the same. Cardiff University remains wholly committed to ensuring our student exchanges with European partners continue, whatever the outcome of Brexit.

The University has put together a website that hopefully answers your Brexit queries, such as:

IF I GO HOME AND THEN COME BACK, WILL I BE STOPPED AT THE BORDER?

No, in both Deal or No Deal scenarios, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises that you should have at least six months' validity remaining on your passport from your date of travel. EU students studying at Cardiff University who are currently abroad on placements will be able to return to the UK at the end of their placement. However, if you are returning to the UK, we would advise that you carry the confirmation letter from your host university in your hand luggage, as a precaution.

DO I NOW HAVE TO PAY TUITION FEES FOR MY ERASMUS PLACEMENT?

No, you only need to continue paying your fees to Cardiff. If you are asked to pay tuition fees, please get in touch. Bare in mind, however, you may be required to pay administration fees towards your host institution. This should never be more than €20.

WILL I RECEIVE THE REST OF MY GRANT?

Yes, any remainder of the Erasmus+ grant that is still owed to you will be paid once you submit all of the appropriate forms and requirements.

WHAT IF I GET SICK - DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR HOSPITAL FEES OR IS MY EHIC STILL VALID?

NO DEAL: If the UK leaves with no deal, your EHIC will no longer be valid. However, you will still be covered by your University insurance policy.

DEAL: Your EHIC card would be valid for the duration of your placement.

WILL MY PLACEMENT STILL COUNT?

Yes, nothing will change with this - any credits you're expected to receive from your placement will still go towards your degree at Cardiff University.

WHAT ABOUT DATA ROAMING CHARGES?

NO DEAL: The European Union has confirmed that roaming charges for British visitors to the EU and vice versa will return in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

DEAL: Existing roaming legislation would remain in place during a transition period.
