2. Drying
After washing, the car is left to dry. Some professionals will use drying devices such as a blower to
speed up the process. That’s because the longer the vehicle is left to dry the higher the chances of
someone touching it and adding swirls. If a dryer isn’t available, some will utilize microfiber clothes
to dry the exterior surface manually.
3. Claying the Car
The third step is to clay the car’s exterior using a high-quality clay bar. Claying is an essential step
as it helps to remove contaminants such as paint overspray, road soils, tree sap, metal particles,
industrial fallout, tar, dirt, and other substances that would not have been eliminated by soap and
water. Claying is done on the paintwork, windows, headlights, taillights, and door jambs as well.
After claying, the detailer wipes down every clayed part to remove residue that may have been left
behind. In most instances, they make use of post-clay spirits to ensure a good clean. Some will even
give the car another wash to make sure that the exterior parts of the vehicle are free of all forms of
contaminants.
