NE W S found at the ground floor of Academic Building I. The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Capitol University Student Chapter (PICE-CUSC) (formerly Junior Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers or JPICE) is among the top Registered Campus Organizations of Capitol University this semester. The organization traces back its foundation in 1973 and its bona fide members include 3rd, 4th and 5th year Civil Engineering students (BSCE) while those in the lower years are considered as ‘fresh members’. PICE-CUSC is well-known for its role in protecting the rights of its members and keeping them in-touch even after their graduation. There are more than 200 members of the PICE-CUSC this year. “I think the reasons of our inclusion in the top RCO list are, our active participation in school activities and the good leader- eryone was actively participating in the activities. We were also influenced by our President to be disciplined and responsible,” said Mr. Donald Alcayde, JPSME Vice-President. “We are currently planning for our future activities and hopefully our members will continue to show their cooperation,” said Mr. Jessie Chan Acut Jr. JPSME President. Junior Mariners’ Club (JUMARS) is the only RCO from the College of Maritime Education in the list. It received its first recognition as an organization way back in July 2005. Members are B.S. Marine Engineering students and membership is automatic upon enrolling the course. The organization annually updates its set of officers. “I believe it has something to do with our unity as a group, 19 2 5 • i s s u e N o . 0 1 collaboration with the Maritime Education Student Body Organization (MESBO), timely bulletin board updates and our participation in extension activities of our college,” Cdt. C/Engr. Ace Benedict Cariño said, JUMARS President. Cdt. C/Engr. Cariño also promised to impress the CME college officials. “We will now add tutorials, specifically in Mathematics, as a priority to help our members. We will also suggest some activities such as the Shipboard and Plant visit,” he added. JUMARS is set to have its own office soon. Its members are now temporarily enjoying free access to the NewSim Maritime Training Center with its facilities. As of 2013, there are more than 600 members of the organization. *** Kudos to the student organizations that made it on top! We all know that college life can be a bit hectic and joining a student organization is like adding burden to our studies but there are a lot of things that we can benefit when we get involved. Aside from the fun, we can develop our communication as well as our leadership skills. The experience will be worth it, so why not jump in and also be in the list? v o l u m e think, those were the reasons for the recognition of the DSAS to our group as a top RCO this semester,” Mr. Aldrin Rohclem A. Emata, JIECEP President, said. “Since the recognition, we became more confident that we can surpass our previous record and we are also looking forward for possible upgrades in our organization,” he added. The JIECEP-CUC is also conducting subject tutorials for their members. This is one of their ways to ensure their quality to stay on the top and become competent engineers someday. “To retain our spot, we will conduct more extra-curricular activities and be involved with other JIECEP groups in other schools,” Mr. Emata said. The JIECEP-CUC is an active member of the JIECEP – Northern Mindanao Sector (JIECEP-NMS) which is a unified organization of different JIECEP chapters in various schools in Northern Mindanao. There are more than 90 members of the JIECEP-CUC this semester from first to fifth year levels. Junior Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers or JPSME also ranked as one of the top organizations for the 2nd semester of SY 2012-2013. The organization has been in existence since 1975 and this year it has approximately 170 members. All B.S Mechanical Engineering (BSME) students are immediately recognized as members. “Unity and cooperation, I should say, paved our way to success. Although we were only few in the organization, ev- c a p i t o l c h r o n i c l e ship of our predecessors,” said Mr. Aljon Love I. Guibone, the current PICE-CUSC President. “It is a good sign for our group to be part of the list and if this continues, the department heads of the College of Engineering will not hesitate in supporting our upcoming activities such as our recently-concluded acquaintance party,” he added. When asked about the future plans after the recognition of the DSAS, Mr. Guibone said that their focus is to retain their good record. They plan to conduct academic activities relevant to the engineering field such as exposure to high-end technologies, plant visits, seminars and recollections. “We will introduce new things to CU now, yet it is still a challenge for us to prove our credibility as a group,” he ended.
