N o . Central Student Government (CSG) officers together with 10 staffers from Capitol Chronicle underwent Climate Change Leadership Workshop, conducted by the Climate Change Commission (CCC) last July 22, 2013 at the Seminar room, Administration building, Capitol University, in preparation for the 3rd Greeneration Summit on August 02, 2013, so as to make them advocates for a greener nation, The facilitators from the CCC started the program by giving the participants a time to know each other as it is the basic of working hand in hand. The next part comes with video presentations of the aftermath of recently opened environmental problems that exhibited devastations to earth and its inhabitants. It was then followed by an in-depth discussions on global warming as a result from emission of greenhouse gases by household units and industries which causes climate change. Ms. Pebbles Sanchez, an advocate for youth empowerment and governance of the Climate Change Commission served as the key facilitator in the seminar. “Nearly half of the population is in the youth sector. The government cannot do it alone. We need to do something. We need solutions for this issue,” she said. To address such environmental issues, Ms. Sanchez and team acquainted the participants with the CCC’s National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAPwhich is inclusive of 7 strategic priorities such as water sufficiency, ecological and environmental stability, food security, human security, sustainable energy, knowledge and capacity development and climate smart industries. Right after the discussion, the facilitators grouped the participants into five and tasked them to brainstorm and write down the possible effects of climate change to food production, built environment, water supply, natural environment and in health. In addition he reminded his audience that Capitol University was declared the 2011 regional winner under the college category of the 2011 National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools and the best extension program in region 10.
