S
nowline Hospice, founded
in Placerville in 1979, serves
patients along the Highway
50 corridor from Sacramento to Kyburz
and into Roseville. This non-profit
organization, one of the greater Sacra-
mento area’s first hospices, has been
providing hospice care for 38 years,
and is in its fourth year of Snowline
Supportive Care, an innovative pal-
liative care model that’s leading the
region, state and nation.
“Hospice is care received in the last
six months of life, but we’ve expanded
to care for people in the last year of
life,” says Michael Schmidt, Executive
Director. “Snowline Supportive is spe-
cialized medical care for people with
serious illness and provides an extra
layer of support in addition to regular
health care. It is physical, emotional,
and whole-person focused care.”
Located in Sacramento and Dia-
mond Springs, Snowline is one of few
remaining community-based hospice
organizations, and has 90 clinical staff
from doctors to home health aides,
plus retail staff. Teams of certified and
licensed caregivers provide Snowline’s
services in the homes of patients.
To help fund service, Snowline
operates retail thrift stores, with Fol-
som, Cameron Park, Camino, and two
Placerville locations, and a brand-new
15,000-square-foot store on Arden
Way in Sacramento. “We invite every-
one to shop with us or donate items
to help support our mission of caring
for people at this critical time in their
lives,” says Schmidt.
Snowline encourages corporate
partners to sponsor their community-
based programs that go beyond hos-
pice care, such as Music and Memory,

pet therapy, and veteran services. Other
innovative programs include HAT
(Healing All Together), which provides
a safe place for children to express grief
after sudden and often traumatic loss.
“Please help us continue coming to
patients’ homes with a team approach,
providing excellent pain and symp-
tom management, and focusing the
right care at the right time,” concludes
Schmidt.
