THE POWER OF COLLECTIVE ACTION
IN THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY
he voices that call for
inclusivity, equity and justice
are more important than ever.
With the changing social and political
landscape, the San Joaquin Valley
Health Fund is committed to supporting
those who are most impacted by deep
inequities in the San Joaquin Valley. We
stand with community organizations
that are leading the way to create
and promote policies for healthier
comm unities throughout the region.
The San Joaquin Valley Health Fund
(the Fund), a partnership of eleven re-
gional, state and national funders in-
cluding Sierra Health Foundation, The
California
Endowment,
Rosenberg
Foundation, The California Wellness
Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation,
Blue Shield of California Foundation,
Wallace H. Coulter Foundation, Dig-
nity Health, Tides, Hellman Foundation
and The James Irvine Foundation was
established in 2014 to strengthen the

tions in the Valley to improve health and
well-being by advancing programs and
policy changes that promote commu-
nity health, and racial and health equity
for all.
Since 2015, the Fund has invested
more than $5 million to support 71
community partners in the nine coun-
ties of Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera,
Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stan-
islaus and Tulare. With increasing
momentum, the partners this year
developed a policy agenda that they
presented to policymakers at Equity
on the Mall, a 1,000-person rally at the
California State Capitol in February.
Their platform elevated key priorities
needed to build a healthier future and
achieve a golden state for all of the di-
verse communities in the San Joaquin
Valley. Those priorities include food se-
curity, air quality, clean drinking water,
housing, health care, education, em-
ployment, immigrant rights, domestic
violence, open space, neighborhood

safety, reproductive health and other
drivers of health outcomes.
The strength of the Fund’s model
comes from the power of collective ac-
tion and an equal partnership between
philanthropy and community partners,
in which residents are leaders in the
transformation. Together, we will con-
tinue to sow seeds to reduce inequities
and promote health and opportunity
throughout the San Joaquin Valley.
