ociety for the Blind, founded
in Sacramento in 1954 and
now a nationally recognized
agency, empowers individuals living
with low vision or blindness to
discover, develop and achieve their
full potential. Located in Midtown
Sacramento, Society provides expert,
state-of-the-art education and vision
healthcare to help those affected by
vision loss to live life to the fullest.
Society for the Blind provides life
and job skills training, mentorship, and
tools to maintain independence for
thousands of youth, adults, and seniors
in Sacramento and surrounding areas
who are experiencing vision loss.
Each year, nearly 6,000 individuals
participate in Society programs and
services through their teaching center
classes, in-home training sessions, and
community workshops.
The only comprehensive
rehabilitation center for a 27-county
region, Society for the Blind is
committed to addressing the high
unemployment rate for individuals
with vision loss. “The economic
impact of vision loss is significant for
individuals and businesses,” says Shari
Roeseler, Executive Director, “but we
can partner with employers to offer
vision rehabilitation training and
onsite assistance so they can provide
tools that enable a valued employee to
stay on the job.”
