MAURITIUS ISLAND DISCOVERY
The Mauritian
Cuisine, a Mix
of Flavours
Mauritius is a feast for the senses,
not only for the eyes with its beautiful
landscapes, but also for the taste buds.
Gourmets will be treated to a world
of flavours and aromas, inherited from
the various migratory flows from which
the country has benefited throughout
its history. French, Indian, Chinese and
African culinary traditions, which are some
of the most popular and loved cuisines
across the world, have been passed down
from generation to generation.
Very often, a Mauritian will start his day
with a continental breakfast follow it with
an Indian lunch, and finish the day with a
Chinese dinner.
Mauritius has very strong historical
ties with French culture, from which it has
inherited its savoir-vivre. As evidenced
when savouring French dishes such as
casseroles, jugged hare or coq au vin with
a good wine.
Over time, some dishes have been
garnished with exotic ingredients from the
country, creating a unique flavour.
