3. Thomas Jefferon. In 1775, he and John Adams were told to draft a Declaration of Independence. it was mainly Jefferson’s work though. He attempted to set a plan to put an end to slavery, but declined to bring it to

the House of Delegates. Later in

1797, the original electoral system

made Jefferson vice president.

He later ran again, and it gave

Jefferson a place for presidency. Washington and Adams, the previous presidents, secured peace with foreign powers, and he did not. Jefferson had been attempting to save his money by doing many things, like reducing the army and the navy. In 1803 he obtained the Louisiana territory from the French. Jefferson had the United States supporting

France and Britain in the Napoleonic Wars. That failed due to a prohibition with US trade with their enemy. Jefferson later called for a wholesale ban on US export to Europe, which is known as the Embargo Act. That also failed and caused economic

repercussions. Jefferson and Adams

died on July 4, 1826, while the

citizens were celebrating the fiftieth

anniversary of the Declaration of

Independence. He always believed

that the government should be kept

to a minimum. He is ranked third due to him not having original thoughts. He would come up with ideas that other people had previously developed. He also had many failures, especially of acts he placed that were not necessary. He was still very consistent and successful.
