coach . Instead , it can come in the form of just being lazy or disorganized . Perhaps the coach told you to do squats and you were feeling tired that day so you did leg extensions instead . Perhaps the coach told you to do 45 minutes of cardio , but you decided to sleep in because you stayed up late . Perhaps you ' re craving a cheat meal and the coach says no but you feel like you need it anyway . Straying from the plan is a sure way to ruin your coach ' s plan for you . If you ' re doing this , at least tell your coach . It ' s extremely frustrating when an athlete does this , lies about it , and then the coach is left scratching their head because they have no idea why the individual ’ s body is not responding like it ' s supposed to .
BEING RESPECTFUL TO THE COACH If you have a proper coach , they will be respectful and get back to you within 24 hours , they will always be looking out for your best interests , and they should not be putting you down . The same is expected in reverse . When you put down a coach , question their intelligence , or even as simple as not responding to their messages or skip check-ins , it is a sure way to tell your coach that you don ' t respect them . Ultimately when it comes to the coach-client relationship , The athlete should have a level of respect for the coach far above the respect that is shown in society nowadays .
PUTTING YOUR EGO ASIDE You hired the coach for a reason , likely because you felt they knew more than you . Coaches are human too and at times they may unintentionally make a decision that does not have you looking your best . But whether this brings you a win or a loss , a great athlete realizes that at least they learned and they never give up . They put that experience aside , they learn from it and they strive to be even better next time with the new found knowledge they have . Put your ego aside and follow what they tell you . You don ' t know more than them , and if you do , maybe you should do your own thing .
COMMUNICATING PROPERLY Your coach is not a mind reader , their ability to help you comes from the feedback you give them . It ' s important to communicate with the coach and not skip check-ins , and voice anything you feel can affect your results . At the same token , you don ' t need to tell your coach every small detail in your life . Some clients tend to overshare in their communication with the coach and it can actually be to the athlete ' s detriment . So much information can at times become overwhelming and the coach can get confused with the big picture of what truly is affecting you . At the same time , it ' s important to keep things professional . It feels amazing when a coach becomes friends with an athlete . But sometimes that professional line gets blurred and the athlete might start losing respect for the coach and viewing them as an equal .
BEING GRATEFUL Although coaches do this as a job and the athlete is paying for a service , it ' s important to be grateful . Not only does it speak about your character , but when a coach feels gratitude from a client , it drives them more to see that athlete succeed and give them the best possible service . This gratitude is also a sign of respect . If your coach is a good coach , they ' re trying to go above and beyond for you to be successful in your endeavor to the stage .
