“UNDENATURED
COLLAGEN”
HYDROLYZED
COLLAGEN
This supplement can be taken with meals and should
be avoided taken in abundance as the lack of amino
acids properties makes it different from other types
of proteins on the market. Collagen is derived from
bovine bone and cartilage, making it a bit more
expensive than your everyday whey protein. The
process of creating this form is quite unique: the
bones are compressed, crushed, powdered, defatted,
and then soaked in acid to eliminate the calcium. It is
soaked again to break down the collagen bonds and
then dehydrated. When the process gets to the final
stage, you are left with small undamaged hydrolyzed
collagen powder. The consumer would then take this
free-form powder with water or another type of
fluid, allowing it to be easily absorbed into the
bloodstream and build new collagen in the body.
This form of collagen
has been suggested by
many sources to take
around 40 mg once
daily. Undenatured
collagen helps reduce
the negative effects of
osteoarthritis and
rheumatoid arthritis
when there is an
autoimmune factor to
it. Examine.com says
that it doesn’t need to
be taken at any
particular time of the
day but ideally, take it
on an empty stomach
before your breakfast in
the morning. You can
take it any way you
choose, but taking any
supplement on an
empty stomach will
allow you will absorb it
quicker than if it’s being
digested and mixed
with other micro or
macro nutrients. This
form of collagen is not
as popular as the
hydrolyzed collagen
still has its loyal
following of users.
