THE S C ALE AND HOW I USE IT TO MEASURE PROGRESS It doesn’t matter if we’re in the off season or contest season. To keep my athletes focused on their objectives, to keep them accountable to their goals, and to keep me updated on their progress I have all my athletes send me weekly updates. These updates include their weight and change in weight from last week’s update.  I ask for weight updates weekly because I have found that for some athletes asking for weight updates every 2-3 weeks or even monthly was not frequent enough for these athletes as they would get too comfortable and/or become complacent. There wasn’t enough accountability. On other hand, asking for weight updates too frequently would put too much emphasis just on the scale and in most cases, unless trying to make a weight class, daily weight fluctuations are normal and not indicative of actual fat loss or gain.
