10 ) Set short-term and long-term goals in various areas of your life , i . e career , personal development , relationships and health , as well as a strategic plan .
11 ) Prepare emotionally for the transition out of your sport . This might involve exploring and processing the various emotions associated with retirement , i . e . grief , loss , uncertainty , excitement and relief .
12 ) Do seek professional help from mental game coaches , sports psychologists , career counsellors , psychotherapists , financial advisors and other experts who can provide guidance and support during your transition process .
By implementing these strategies , athletes can better prepare themselves for a successful transition out of their sport by embracing the opportunities retirement can bring as well as navigating these challenges with resilience and a positive mindset .
