I encourage you to explore new opportunities and experiences outside of your comfort zone .
2 ) Identify and develop your transferable skills that you can leverage in your post-sports careers . This might involve skills i . e . leadership , teamwork , problem-solving , time management , communication and goal setting through workshops and training programs .
Another idea to consider is to get involved in volunteer work or community initiatives to stay connected , give back and make a positive impact beyond the realm of sports .
3 ) Build a strong support network of friends , family , mentors , coaches , other athletes and professionals who can provide guidance , encouragement , and emotional support during your transition process .
For instance , build and expand your professional networks by attending industry events , joining relevant organizations and connecting with professionals in fields of interest beyond sports .
4 ) Explore and develop your identity BEYOND your role as an athlete . This might involve exploring hobbies , interests , values , and strengths that are separate from your athletic career .

7 ) Develop a financial plan for retirement , including budgeting , saving , investing , and exploring potential sources of income beyond your sports career .
