I found an 80 ’ s Weider bench with some cement weights on Kijiji and I quickly began training in my basement .
I remember my father complaining as we picked these weights up saying : “ I know that you will lift weights for 3 weeks , give up and we will just have all this crap taking up space .”
Well , it ’ s been quite a while and I still haven ’ t quit !
At first , it was very challenging to learn to enjoy this endeavor where discomfort is a main part of it . It was something that was not pleasant while I was doing it but I was loving the results and kept coming back to it .
Then , my mindset had to change from “ when will this get easier ?” to “ I am excited to get stronger and look better every single day thanks to my hard work .”
Thanks to bodybuilding I have been able to get many amazing opportunities in my life from helping thousands of people , to jobs , to close friends , to experiences , to my business and all the way to meeting my wife . All while doing and pursuing something I absolutely love and that I am so passionate about .
I want to show you guys the 12 beautiful life lessons I have learned from bodybuilding .
Anything is possible as long as you set your mind to it . Before finding this beautiful sport and lifelong endeavor , I was a very lazy and demotivated person . When you see people being “ successful ” in whatever you may consider the definition of this , oftentimes many think “ I could never do that .” I grew up like this . When I began training , I was very overweight ; seeing changes and goal setting changed my life . I said I wanted to do competitive bodybuilding and many laughed at the idea of this . Once I saw my physique transform , I saw that as long as I set my mind to something I can achieve it .
No matter how hard a period of time may seem , you CAN get through it . From that all out interval where you feel like your lungs will explode , to the hour-long cardio sessions , to waiting for that next meal because you are starving , to those last 8 weeks of contest prep that seem grueling . Going through these situations and coming out victorious has taught me that if I can get through it with my training , I can do it in other aspects of life . Whether it is an argument with a loved one , a stressful period of time at work or at school , or even an unexpected situation that set you back financially . Things will always work out if you brainstorm and create a plan of action .
Creating a strategy for your goals and having measurable benchmarks . Most people coast through life expecting for the best . I would do the same workouts when I first started training over and over
