and any disability to cope with the transition , as well , I volunteer at rehabs and trauma centres around the GTA and I went back to the gym regularly , even hired a coach / trainer ( Riz Sunny from Bollywood Body ) to help me who was the ONLY trainer willing to work with a new amputee ! All these things had given me life again , but nothing feels like being back to the weights , they were the perfect motivation .
As a new amputee , I ’ m still in recovery and adjusting to so many changes . I must be mindful that I cannot keep up the same energy or stamina as others , that I cannot do the same workouts as before ( squats , lunges , DL ), that I ’ m not the same weight on both left & right side of my body , and that I ’ m hauling an extra 12LBS on my left-side every day which impacts my entire form . I must be more mindful and plan for the remainder of my day for other tasks because I cannot keep going after an intense workout , my tank gets depleted much faster than it used to . I cannot grocery shop and meal prep on the same day . I cannot cardio and weight train the same session . Even posing was a great challenge in itself so I sought out who I thought was best ( Michelle Kennedy from Elite Physique Canada ) who was so professional and patient as this was new to both of us . I continued training with my coach twice a week and 4 days on my own putting my body through strenuous pain and continuously agitating my wounds . All these things I was learning on the fly but that didn ’ t stop me , I needed this accomplishment more then I needed physical comfort . I competed in CPA President ’ s Cup but did not place , which is the norm for most people . It was suggested that I try again at Legends Cup 2 weeks later , but my body couldn ’ t take anymore , nonetheless we strive for greatness . I hit the gym even harder , dieted cleaner , and posed tighter and I PLACED ! The thrill and excitement continued for another week when I got to compete at the new Radical Body Transformations RBT and placed FIRST .
There is no comparison to the sense of empowerment and pride that competing has given me , it ’ s indescribable . I ’ m the proudest , the happiest , and the strongest when I ’ m at my best . To be the first amputee to compete in CPA and place for nationals makes me feel …. whole again !!
