B Y J U A N R O J A S Should I eat fruits? When you think of eating healthy, what comes to mind? Vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and oftentimes fruits. But are fruits really all they are hyped up to be and do they have room in a muscle building/fat loss plan? Let’s start off with saying that fruit is like nature’s candy. Fruit is highly comprised of sugar. As a society, we have been indoctrinated that sugar is evil. The funny part is, most people know the potential negative effects that sugar has on our health, yet as a species we continue to fuel this industry that we know has adverse effects on us. That is one of the main reasons why obesity continues to climb, especially in North America. Sugar is in everything; from milk, to candies, to breads, to sauces, to marinades, to dressings and of course, it is found in fruit. It is impossible to avoid sugar and I would say it is one of the most addictive substances in the world. If the world completely ran out of candies, chocolates and anything with processed sugars, there would be a lot of people in withdrawal.
