SO ALTHOUGH PROTEIN POWDER CAN BE A NICE
SUPPLEMENT , ALWAYS PRIORITIZE REAL FOOD . NOW , LET ’ S
SAY YOU DO DECIDE TO SUPPLEMENT WITH A PROTEIN
POWDER , THERE ARE A FEW THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR ON
THE LABEL THAT MAY HELP YOU MAKE A SMARTER
PURCHASE .
THIRD PARTY TESTING
Many reputable companies are
now paying extra to be
certified by a third party in
order to ensure that what they
claim on the label is real. There
have been many scandals the
last 2 decades about
companies amino spiking, not
having correct label claims and
even adding illegal substances
to their supplements. This
ensures that you can trust the
label that it is real.
PROTEIN TO SCOOP
SIZE RATIO
Now that we know the label has correct claims
since it is 3rd party tested, we want to see what
percentage product we are getting. If the label
claims that the scoop size is 40 grams and the
amount of protein per scoop is 20 grams, make
sure you are not paying premium dollar for that
product which only yields 50% of protein per
scoop. At the end of the day, our goal is to get a
protein powder, why should you be paying for a
bunch of fillers and have your product run out
quicker? Oftentimes these fillers can be in added
carbs, fats, sweeteners etc. Most isolate proteins
will yield roughly a 90% purity of product.
Meaning if a scoop is 30 grams, there will be
roughly 27 grams of protein in there.
THE SOURCES OF THE
PROTEIN
There is no right or wrong here, but more
your personal preference and your goals.
Many people might not like to get their
protein from animal products so they opt
for a vegan protein. If that is the goal,
look for a blend of vegan proteins that
can provide a full amino acid spectrum
(amino acids are the building blocks of
your proteins). A very common blend
that companies use is brown rice, chia
seed, hemp, cranberry and chickpea as
they all blend together to provide a
balanced amount of amino acids. If you
do not mind your protein from animal
products, there is also beef protein, egg
protein, and many companies are now
developing protein from sources like fish
etc.
