Dear Members :
We are now in the peak of the competitive season and everyone is revved up either competing for their first time in one of our regional competitions or a seasoned competitor hitting the Toronto Pro Qualifier , the Vancouver Pro Qualifier and or the Natural Canada Pro Qualifier . These are exciting times . Every city across Canada that has one of our 57 competitions in their community is experiencing a resurgence of fitness minded athletes participating .
This past month on June 17th in the City of Ottawa the annual Ottawa Natural Championships were held . The support was overwhelming from the community . Promoters Rob and Sonia Domingue did an excellent job promoting this event across the Ottawa region to fitness centres and trainers alike . The natural movement is alive and well ! With over 275 entries , and the majority being first-time competitors we are pleased to see that this competition continues grow and is accepted in the mainstream fitness community as an exciting , entertaining and healthy sport .
I was particularly taken by surprised to see 19 junior competitors in the Men ’ s Classic Physique division . This is the largest number of classic physique competitors in the junior division ever . My first thought was the influence of our very own Canadian , Ottawa born - Chris Bumstead , 3 times Mr . Olympia and reigning champion . He is one of most popular and respected bodybuilders in the world . He is proud to be Canadian and has given back to the sport 10-fold because of his positive lifestyle . As well there were athletes competing in Ottawa that came from across Canada as all CPA regional competitions are open to all Canadian residents . Of course , Chris Bumstead ’ s influence on the Classic Physique movement is likely the largest motivator for many competitors competing in that category . The classic physique look includes condition , symmetry , and balance within a certain height to weight ratio lends itself to natural competitors who can achieve these goals .
