CANADIAN PHYSIQUE ALLIANCE July/August 2020 | Page 42
Mindi O'Brien
Pro League Niagara Falls Pro/AM alongside the
voice of bodybuilding, Bob Cicherillo. Not only
does she work hard to ensure these shows go
off without a hitch, she also crafted her business
around personal training and nutrition for both
competitive and non-competitive individuals,
encouraging wellness and personal growth. As
a renowned posing expert, she also hosts posing
clinics to help female competitors nail their
poses, focusing on developing their stage presence
and building confidence.
Mindi is ecstatic to be working along side the
Canadian Physique Alliance where she “grew
up”, back when it was the Ontario Physique Alliance,
and has fondly reminisced on how Rudy
Jambrosic and Ron & Angie Hache were there
to watch her “grow up” - from her very first competition
as an amateur all the way to the Olympia
Stage. To be a part of someone else’s story is
something she is hoping for – being a key part
of another superstar’s story, much like her family
and coaches were for her.
Mindi O’Brien is a world class athlete, a business
owner, a mother, and a role model. Mindi
is the pinnacle of what many hope to achieve
– 11 Olympia Competitions, 9 Arnold Classics, as
well as earning a Lifetime Achievement Award
from the OPA, now CPA, and another Lifetime
Achievement Award from the SWIS Symposium.
Mindi was also the first Canadian to ever win an
IFBB Competition, which she earned at her very
first pro show. There isn’t much more for her to
accomplish on the stage – so she’s decided to
focus her attention to building the stage even
further following her retirement from competing
in 2016.
As an athlete who has competed across each
discipline the women’s categories have to offer
(Fitness, Figure & Physique and Bikini) within
her tenured IFBB career, she has an unique vision
and experience into what makes each class
successful. Mindi has always been keen to give
back to the sport that she built her life around,
and has founded the Allmax/GNC Live Well Mindi
O Show in Niagara Falls, as well as the IFBB
Despite her “retirement”, Mindi continues her
journey as an athlete, constantly training and
ensuring her training techniques remain industry
leading. Her sponsor, JAKTRX Nutrition, helps
her remain laser focused, alongside her industry
peers and her old coaches. She credits the
sport to building her character, stating “… fitness
showed me who I truly am. It forced me to overcome
so many obstacles, both mentally and
physically. I began with a vision and a passion; as
time progressed, I learned about self-discipline,
identifying and building upon weaknesses, responsibility,
resilience, but ensuring that I was
still enjoying the sport and keeping my expectations
realistic and attainable. I always strived
to be the best I could be…”. Needless to say, we
think she hit the nail on the head.
With so many people supporting her throughout
her career, she has plenty of shout-outs!
She takes great pride in having such an amazing
cast in her corner, and would like to thank
