PRESIDENT ’ S

MESSAGE

Dear Members :
JANUARY 2021
The year 2020 to put it mildly has been an unforgettable year . As we begin the 2021 season I do not think I need to go into why we are happy to see 2020 come to an end . Although the 2020 season is over I am still haunted with how the year finished and the cancelation of the Toronto Pro Qualifier , one day before registration , followed by the cancellation of the Ben Weider Natural Pro / Am . The cancellation of all Pro Qualifiers and Pro Shows are low points in our history as this is the first time this has happened in Canada .
The most devastated were the athletes who prepared for competitions which were cancelled due to the pandemic . However , there were some bright spots in 2020 and lessons learned from government restrictions that were imposed on us . Kudos to the promoters and their teams for those contests that were able to come to fruition and to those promoters who were able to adapt at the last minute to host their event . Athletes that made it to the stage after adjusting their program regimen many times upon cancellation of competition after competition and yet finding a way to compete in 2020 illustrates their passion and commitment .
Will this experience make us stronger and even more united in the 2021 season ? I believe it will ! The determination of our members will shine through in the new year and they will be rewarded for their efforts on stage . For all the negatives of the 2020 season the positives moving forward will far surpass our expectations .
As you will see in our January / February Newsletter , we have our schedule of events for the 2021 season and promoters are confident the competitions will take place . We have adjusted the dates of some of our Pro Qualifiers to be held later in the year , beginning in July with the Vancouver Pro / Am . Promoters have planned their competitions with or without an audience , many are now including a pay per view component to their event to ensure family and friends are able to see the contests from at home .
Canada continues to lead the way with the most natural and open competitions per capita than any other country . We have also now added another professional event on the west coast ensuring all categories are represented in both eastern and western Canada . We are not going to let the pandemic ruin the hope and dreams of our competitors wanting to compete in 2021 .
The overwhelming support of NPC Worldwide and the IFBB Pro League for our Canadian athletes is second to none . They have included us in the NPC newsletter by giving the CPA its own page . They consider us family and we feel the same way . This started with Ben and Joe Weider who were both born in Canada ; they were the founders of our sport . Ben continued to reside in Canada and Joe became a US citizen--they were family and partners as we are with the NPC and IFBB Pro League .
At this time , the Canadian Physique Alliance wishes to thank our members for supporting the CPA in 2020 and those who plan to come on board for the 2021 season . The future is always uncertain , even in the best of times . It is however with great certainty that we will pull through whatever crosses our path ... together !
