Steve would place the stronger and
comparable competitors next to each other
to be compared and although in small
classes where the placings were obvious, he
would take the time to ask all the judges if
we were good with the way he lined them up
for comparisons, ensuring we were working
as a team on our final individual decisions.
Open mind, patience, integrity: Steve
displayed this when engaging with the
judges on larger line ups, he called up
athletes and placed stronger and
comparable competitors together for
comparison which in my opinion were bang
on every time, however he would look at the
judges and say “C’mon guys help me out, do
you need anyone moved around?” again
encouraging us to participate. This was a
psychological lift to all the judges especially
hearing this from the top IFBB Pro Head
Judge.
Fairness, consciousness, flexibility: Steve
displayed this at the Finals. During
Prejudging there was a close decision in a
class. One of the judges asked Steve to
review that decision and possibly re-judge
this class. Steve reviewed the scoresheet;
saw both athletes in question in their finals
posing routine and sided with this judge.
What was important in this decision was his
flexibility and willingness to listen to one of
the judges. In the end fairness prevailed.
