WINTER 2020
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Members:
I am hoping you all had a wonderful 2019 season and following the holiday season, we are
now back on track planning your 2020 competition year. I finished the year by judging an
International Pro Qualifier in Bermuda, in December. This was rather exciting as I was to sit
next to Steve Weinberger, one of the top Head Judges for the NPC and IFBB Pro
League. As always with our sport evolving, it’s an important and positive learning process
for experienced and new Head Judges to have this kind of opportunity. The Head Judge
plays a key role in the outcome of placings at a competition. He or she must ensure
consistency which is vital to the credibility and direction our sport is heading.
To hold a position of such responsibility takes
special qualities of integrity, consciousness,
fairness, flexibility, control, efficiency, patience,
having an open-mind and most importantly the
will to make controversial decisions that are
best for the athlete and the future direction of
each category. Steve was able to demonstrate
these qualities at this event.
Let’s start with efficiency: The first thing
Steve did was communicate with the
promoter and stage staff before the
Prejudging, confirming everyone was on the
same page to ensure the judges had a good
look at every competitor. This guaranteed
every competitor was judged as efficiently
and fairly as possible within the time
constraint that may be imposed on the
judges. Obviously, the Head Judge did the
call outs.
