CANADIAN PHYSIQUE ALLIANCE FALL ISSUE SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER | Page 103
Where do you live? I currently live in Edmonton, Alberta.
Do you work or go to school? I graduated 2 years ago with a
bachelor’s degree in criminology. I am planning to go back to
school in the next year. Aside from academics, I am generally
an eager learner and always finding ways to educate myself on
nutrition and anatomy of the body.
I am not a student but I am always learning whether it be in my
field of business, or in the field of physique. Life has lots to teach so
we should never close our minds to learning more!
I work in the human services field as a youth worker.
How did I get interested in competing? My interest in competing
peaked in 2014. I had just received a 3 day pass to Spalady
gym and I sat with one of the trainers for my personal fitness
consultation and prior I had heard her mention about doing a
competition. So during our sit down she asked me what my fitness
goal was at the time I responded saying I want to inspire people
around me to live a healthy lifestyle and she said like being a
fitness model and I said yes...lol with no idea what this involved.
Then she asked if I would like to compete and I said yes and that
was how my journey as a competitor started. I had no idea what
I was getting into but I loved fitness enough that I was willing to
push myself to get on stage. A complete introvert, I would have
never pictured myself on stage in a bikini but after putting in so
much work prepping I felt worthy and confident showing of all my
hard work and sweat. I love it now.
How many shows have you competed in? I made my CPA debut
this year competing in 2 shows, the Alberta Winter Naturals in
Calgary and the Natural Pro Qualifier in Toronto. Prior to that, I
had competed in 3 non CPA shows.
When were you awarded the Spotlight Award? I was awarded the
spotlight award at the the Alberta Winter Naturals 2019.
How would you like to inspire others in the fitness industry?
I would like to inspire others simply through living a healthy
lifestyle and sharing my fitness journey with the public. Especially
being a competitor, it is not realistic to stay shredded year round
so I want to inspire others to love their bodies at every stage and
along with that showcasing through my hard work that whatever
you put your mind to you can achieve. The journey may be tough
but always remembering your why and visualizing yourself where
you want to be.
What is you favorite workout routine? My favorite workout
routine involves spending 5-10 mins in the sauna as a warmup.
For my workout I like to do high reps 15-20 reps per set. My go to
work out is actually deadlifts because as a compound exercise it
works multiple muscles at the same time. It’s a power exercise and
can be done in different variations and I mostly end my workout
with a sauna session. I love a good sweat.
