CANADIAN PHYSIQUE ALLIANCE DECEMBER ISSUE | Page 87
His friend bet that if he got to
10% BF he would buy Shawn a
pair of shoes. Anyone that
knows Shawn knows that he has
a major shoe addiction. Shawn
went to get his body
composition done, then asked if
I would coach him for this bet.
No problem! Needless to say,
Shawn caught the bug and
asked me if I would coach him
for a show. I was honoured. In
2017, Shawn did his first
physique competition at the
Vancity Showdown Natural. As a
coach who has trained
hundreds of athletes, Shawn
was a dream come true. He
never missed training or cardio
and never went off plan in any
way. He practiced posing every
single day. When he told me he
wanted to do the same show in
2018 and come back better, I
said: “let’s do it”! On October 13,
2018, Shawn did his 2nd
physique competition and you
guessed it - bigger and leaner.
Since the accident, Shawn has
accepted what happened and
looks only at the positive. I have
actually never heard him
complain about anything. He is
left with double vision without
his glasses, balance issues,
speech is still impaired, he can’t
feel temperature on his left side
so he needs to check this with
his right, but he never focuses
on these things. He owns a
house and is 100% self-
sufficient. He got angry when
the Handy Dart would forget
about him, so he retook his
driver’s license and drives with
modification to the car.
He looks after my house and my dogs
without hesitation when I go away and he
will be the first person to help anyone in
need.
I asked Shawn at the end of our talk on his
life since the accident.
“So you ever get angry at your situation?”
And he replied “Yes, I get angry at Siri when
she doesn’t understand me”
Shawn is determined to continue training
and progressing and I am honoured to help
him achieve all of his dreams and goals.
