Canada Getting Its Own Indie Music Charts
The Canadian Independent Music Association ( CIMA ) and BuzzAngle Music are teaming up to bring the first-ever independent-only music sales and streaming charts to Canada . Using BuzzAngle ’ s music data reporting technology , these new charts , set to launch later this year , will provide real-time , up-to-date data on the performance of releases from Canada ’ s independent music industry .
Both the new CIMA Top Independent Albums and CIMA Top Independent Songs charts will be published on a weekly basis at www . cimamusic . ca .
IMSTA FESTA A Hit For Second Toronto Showing
The second annual IMSTA FESTA Toronto event was held at Ryerson University on Oct . 17 . Presented by the International Music Software Trade Association ( IMSTA ), this year ’ s keynote speech and Q & A was with legendary producer and recording engineer Jimmy Douglass , who spoke at length about the evolution of his 40-plus year career working with everybody from The Rolling Stones to Kanye West , how he has managed the transition from analog to digital , and changes in music trends and styles .
There were over 40 recording technology exhibitors spread out over two floors of the building conducting demos and workshops in the various classrooms and studio spaces .

CBC Music & MusiCounts Launch Canada ’ s Greatest Music Class Competition

… Toronto ’ s Music Incubator will open a new space on the south side of Yonge-Dundas Square on Nov . 3 , 3015 . The incubator will begin with a 2,000-sq . ft . pop-up space in a heritage building at 21 Dundas Square , starting with the launch of Artist Manager , a professional development program for emerging artist managers , in partnership with Canada ’ s Music Incubator and Coalition Music .
The music incubator is the first step toward the Downtown Yonge BIA ’ s plan to create a permanent urban music incubator , providing mentorship , professional development , studio space , education , and networking and collaboration opportunities for emerging artists , managers , producers , and industry professionals .

CBCMusic . ca and MusiCounts , a music education charity associated with CARAS and The JUNO Awards , have launched the Canada ’ s Greatest Music Class competition . The competition , which runs until Nov . 30 , 2015 , will seek out students aged 13 to17 in traditional music classes , music clubs , and after-school programs across the country . To enter , applicants must submit a video of their class performing their version of an approved song as outlined in the guidelines .
The winning class will receive an assembly concert performance by a yet-to-be-announced top tier Canadian music artist for the entire student body .
