Among the top nominees are The Small Glories with four nominations (Contem- porary Album, Vocal Group, Ensemble, and English Songwriter of the Year); Dave Gunning, also with four nominations (Con- temporary Album, Contemporary Singer, Solo Artist, and English Songwriter of the Year); Jenn Grant with three nominations (Contemporary Album, Contemporary Singer, and Solo Artist of the Year); and Ben Caplan with three nominations (Oliver Schroder Pushing the Boundaries Award, English Songwriters of the Year, and World Solo Artist of the Year). The first-time host of this year’s JUNO Awards Broadcast, Alessia Cara, also leads the pack of nominees for the 49 th JUNO Awards, being handed out on March 14 th and 15 th in Saskatoon, SK. Cara’s six nominations are for JUNO Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Pop Album of the Year. Tory Lanez received five nominations, including JUNO Fan Choice, Artist of the Year, Rap Record- ing of the Year, and two nominations in the R&B/Soul Recording of the Year category. Artists with three nominations include Alexandra Stréliski, Bryan Adams, bülow, Loud Luxury, NAV, and Shawn Mendes. The host province of Saskatchewan is well represented with nominations, includ- ing first-time nominees Hunter Brothers for Breakthrough Group of the Year and Country Album of the Year; Foxwarren for Alternative Album of the Year; The Dead South for Traditional Roots Album of the Year; and Terri Fidelak and Carey Shaw for Album Artwork of the Year. BUFFY SAINTE-MARIE RECEIVING THE 2015 POLARIS MUSIC PRIZE Buffy Sainte-Marie to Receive Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award Indigenous-Canadian music icon, activist, and educator Buffy Sainte-Marie will be the 2020 recipient of the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award at the Canadi- an Music and Broadcast Industry Awards, which will be held during Canadian Music Week in Toronto on May 21 st . Fuelled by her dedication to music, art, philanthropy, social activism, and education, Sainte-Marie has been active in the music industry for nearly 60 years. “Buffy Sainte-Marie sets the bar for everything the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award stands for,” says Gary Slaight, CEO and president of Slaight Communica- tions and the Slaight Family Foundation. “For her, worldwide success and the status of music legend was not a personal goal, but an opportunity – an opportunity to try to right wrongs, an opportunity to give back to the planet, and an opportunity to alter the course of Indigenous lives through education.” For more information, go to www.cmw.net. Tim Baker & Wintersleep Lead 2020 East Coast Music Award Nominees The East Coast Music Association has revealed its list of artist and industry nominees for the 2020 East Coast Music Awards. Tim Baker and Wintersleep lead the pack with seven nominations and The East Pointers follow with six. Ria Mae, Neon Dreams, and Rich Aucoin earned five nominations, while Jenn Grant and Villages each garnered four. East Coast Music Week is heading to St. John’s, NL from April 29 to May 3, 2020.
