SXSW To Celebrate 30 th Anniversary In 2016

South by Southwest ( SXSW ) will be celebrating its 30 th anniversary from March 11-20 in Austin , TX , with the music conference and festival running March 15-20 .

The conference offers hundreds of educational sessions attended by over 30,000 registrants and showcasing artists . The topics cover nearly every corner of the music industry , from music in video games to what roles record labels play in the modern industry . For the first time , there will be multiple keynote speakers at the SXSW Music Conference , those being producer Tony Visconti , hip-hop pioneer James Prince , and U . S . First Lady Michelle Obama . President Barack Obama will also appear at SXSW Interactive , marking the first time a sitting president and the first lady have participated in the event .

A large multi-industry trade show exhibition , Music Gear Expo , and daytime stage performances round out the days while evenings are devoted to the SXSW Music Festival , which showcases 2,000 acts ranging from the unsigned to the iconic .

The Weeknd Leads Pack With Six JUNO Nods

Canadian R & B superstar The Weeknd leads the pack of 2016 JUNO Award nominees with six nods and will also perform at the JUNO Awards Broadcast on April 3 rd in Calgary , AB .

The Weeknd ’ s six nominations include JUNO Fan Choice , Single of the Year , Album of the Year , Artist of the Year , Songwriter of the Year , and R & B / Soul Recording of the Year . Close behind with five nods each are Drake and Justin Bieber , both running for JUNO Fan Choice , Single of the Year , Album of the Year , and Artist of the Year . Drake also received a nomination for Rap Recording of the Year , while Justin Bieber was nominated for Pop Album of the Year . Vying for four categories each are Alessia Cara and Shawn Mendes and artists with three nominations each include Buffy Sainte-Marie , City and Colour , Tobias Jesso Jr ., and Walk Off the Earth .

CMW Announces Mastering Of A Music City Summit & More

Canadian Music Week will once again be taking over downtown Toronto for its seven-day run from May 2-8 , 2016 .

In addition to the three-day Music Summit , CMW organizers have announced the creation of the one-day Mastering of a Music City Summit , which will be held Saturday , May 7 , 2016 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel .

MIRACLES PERFORMING AT CMW 2015

The summit will examine the differences and similarities of cities around the world where the music sector is having a significant economic impact and where various parties work together to develop a vibrant music scene .

The three-day Music Summit , running May 5-7 , will be split into three programming streams looking at social music , live touring , and songwriters and publishers . It will include keynote addresses , celebrity interviews , breakout sessions , and workshops .
