According to Music Canada , there was a significant year-over-year increase in the number of Canadian artists receiving gold and platinum certifications in 2015 . There were 30 gold album certifications awarded to Canadian artists in 2015 compared to 20 in 2014 , and 11 Canadian albums received platinum certification compared to nine in 2014 . Additionally , 42 tracks by Canadian artists were certified gold in 2015 , which is up from 21 in 2014 .

Steve Hill Has Big Night At Maple Blues Awards
Montreal blues guitar virtuoso Steve Hill was the big winner at the 19 th annual Maple Blues Awards gala in Toronto on Jan . 18 , 2016 . Hill took home three awards for Entertainer , Electric Act , and Guitarist of the Year .
Aside from Hill , the only other multiple award winner was Colin Linden for Songwriter and Recording / Producer of the Year for his latest solo album , Rich in Love . Other winners included Matt Andersen for Male Vocalist of the Year , Angel Forrest for Female Vocalist of the Year , Big Dave MacLean for Acoustic Act of the Year , and The Kirby Sewell Band for New Artist of the Year .
