DPA Celebrates 25 th Anniversary
Fourth Annual IMSTA FESTA Toronto Returning to Ryerson
The fourth annual IMSTA FESTA Toronto show will head back to Ryerson University on Saturday Oct . 14 , 2017 . Presented by the International Music Software Trade Association ( IMSTA ) and the SAE Institute , IMSTA FESTA events will also be held in Chicago , New York , and Berlin , and showcase the latest music-making and production technologies as well as educational seminars and keynote speeches and Q & As .
IMSTA FESTA Toronto is free to attend and open to anyone interested in the art of music making : professional and semi-professional musicians , songwriters , music producers , and audio engineers , as well as music students and educators . The day-long event will feature panels , workshops and master classes , demonstrations , and more . Organizers say their aim is to host industry experts in an environment where music-makers can network , interact , and learn with them face-to-face .

DPA Microphones is celebrating its 25 th anniversary in 2017 . Originally called Danish Pro Audio , the company was founded in 1992 by Morten Stove and Ole Brosted Sorensen , who had worked together at Brüel & Kjær ( B & K ), a Danish multinational engineering and electronics company . When B & K shut down its pro audio department , Stove and Brosted took over its sales , service , and development of high-end microphones for broadcast and recording .
Stove and Brosted teamed up with Dan Ingemann Jensen and Jens Jørn Stockholm from DanaBallerina in 1995 and co-developed the DPA 4060 and 4061 miniature microphone . These microphones were an early success for DPA and became widely used in the theatre world , including on Broadway and in London ’ s West End . The DPA 4066 headset mic , released in 1998 , quickly became a go-to in the professional audio industry .
Today , DPA Microphones manufactures vocal , instrument , and studio microphones , as well as broadcast and surround-sound microphones . In addition to theatres on Broadway and in London ’ s West End , numerous musical artists have used DPA microphones on stage , including Michael Jackson , Stevie Wonder , Katy Perry , Michael Bublé , Robbie Williams , Herbie Hancock , The Rolling Stones , Sting , and Seal .

Robin Walenta Elected as First Female Chair of NAMM Board
The NAMM Board of Directors unanimously voted in the next slate of officers at Summer NAMM in Nashville . The 2017 executive committee includes Chair Robin Walenta , Vice-Chair Chris Martin IV , Treasurer Joel Menchey , and Secretary Tom Sumner .
The vote makes Walenta , previously NAMM ’ s vice chair , the organization ’ s first female chair . She is the president and CEO of West Music Co ., a family-owned , seven-store , full-line retailer based in Coralville , IA that was founded in 1914 . Walenta is currently a board member of the National Association of School Music Dealers , a treasurer for the Iowa Alliance for Art Education , and a member of the SupportMusic Coalition .
