After a smaller scale renovation on a
previous home, homeowners Charlie Salji
and Tania Guadagni, decided to take the
plunge and start from scratch to build a
custom home. The homeowners hired us at
Enviable Designs Inc. to design the complete
interior of a 4500 square foot custom
home situated in the lovely and mature
neighborhood of Capital Hill in Burnaby
BC.
The homeowner, a construction manager
by trade, oversaw the physical build of the
home while Victoria of Enviable Designs Inc.
designed the interiors from start to finish.
The goal was to create a heritage inspired
home that looked to be an integrated part
of the mature neighborhood. With that in
mind, we aimed to create a sophisticated
look with a heritage feel that would function
well for an evolving family room.
Entering the house, the first thing one
notices is the reversed floor plan. To take
advantage of the downtown view, the
architect situated the public living spaces on
the top floor while the private bedrooms
and library are on the main floor. A beautiful
paneled staircase creates a wonderful
introduction into the aesthetic of the home.
The heart of the home is of course the
kitchen which was designed around the
man and cook of the house. We created a
spectacular hood design to incorporate a
collection of spices but which also acts as a
framework around the stunning centerpiece
of silver leafed tiles. The island hosts a
specialty sink for the chef but importantly
allows his on-looking children to watch the
magic in the kitchen. With a combination
of quartz and granite countertops as well as
a marble backsplash, we were able to create
a neutral palette full of exciting textures and
materials.
