Once you ensure you are eligible to run and know what you want to run for, fill out this pre-filing form with your sponsor and State Chair. If you are running for president, congratulations, you get to fill out an extra form! On the ominously named Form P, you will submit your proposal for next year’ s convention theme.
All forms must be emailed to both parliamentarian @ njcl. org and constitution @ njcl. org by June 15.
If you miss the pre-filing deadline, you may still be able to run for an office! At the Nominations Committee meeting, you can run for an office from the floor if it is in a State of Emergency( i. e. there are fewer than two pre-filed candidates), and if nobody else is running from your State. If you are considering running from the floor, please email the NJCL Parliamentarian at parliamentarian @ njcl. org.
With your forms having been submitted, you should now start working on your campaign! Plan out your platform, write your speeches, and create your campaign materials. You need two speeches: one that’ s two minutes long for the Nominations Committee meeting and one that’ s three minutes long for the third general assembly. Although anything else is technically optional, feel free to go wild with everything from meme-infused posters to epic websites and beyond. Head over to Let’ s Make Media for tips!
The Parliamentarian will send you important reminders and information over the summer, so check your email regularly! After you submit your forms, remember especially to check your spam folder. Often, the emails end up there.
Finally, before NomCom, you must send all campaign materials to both parliamentarian @ njcl. org and constitution @ njcl. org for approval.
