Advice from the

Main Duties

The main duties of the editor are to edit , compile , design , and publish the Torch : U . S . Three issues ( Winter , Spring , and Summer ) are solo issues ; one issue ( Fall ) is produced in parallel with the previous or incoming editor . The editor is responsible for most of the aspects of the production process — from submission solicitation and preliminary planning to layout and content editing . Beyond the Torch itself , the duties of the editor include judging the publications contest and coordinating with editors across the nation .

How to Prepare

I would recommend that you look into the software on which we design and publish the Torch : U . S . — Joomag . It ’ s incredibly helpful to enter office with a strong grasp not only of broader design principles but also of the ins and outs of Joomag ’ s system , which can be admittedly quirky at times . The concrete skillset required for the office of editor is fairly self-explanatory ; the content slightly less so . Preparing for each issue requires in-depth planning and a vision for what one hopes to see in the forthcoming Torches — before you run , consider what the Torch would look like under your tenure as editor .
