How to Prepare
Main Duties
The office of First Vice-President focuses on promotion , membership , and involvement in the Junior Classical League . The duties include updating the rubric for the Promotional Video Contest for the next school year and judging the Promotional Video and Publicity Contests . In addition , the First Vice-President organizes National Classics Week , typically including events , activities , and celebrations of Classics . The First Vice-President also creates and publishes the National Classics Week packet , which details the themes and programs of the event for the Spring .
In addition , the First Vice-President often works with other board members for other events around the year ( like Classicalia- coordinated by the First and Second Vice-Presidents ). The position truly is what you make it , so be creative ! Creating resources , meetings , events , or other programs to help promote membership and growth of existing JCL chapters and launch new ones .
To prepare to run for First Vice-President , I would recommend looking through the NJCL website , as well as other state and local JCL sites to take inventory of existing programs . What events are currently being run ? Where are there areas for improvement ? Use these ideas to form your own platform , building on your past experiences ( especially with previous local and state JCL positions , if held ) and new ideas to highlight what issues seem most important to you . Focus on a couple key areas and come up with creative initiatives that could boost JCL membership and participation .
