Editor

Main Duties

As NJCL Editor , your most important job is creating the Torch : U . S ., which publishes quarterly . For each issue , you will communicate with your mentor to plan out the content , and with State officers & fellow national officers to solicit submissions . As many parts go into each issue of the Torch , it ’ s key to stay organized . This year , I ’ ve moved submissions to Google Forms to help streamline organization , however , what ’ s more important is that you find an organization system that works for you . Additionally , for each issue , the editor writes a feature article on an aspect of culture from any ancient civilization .
Ultimately , while there is a lot of effort and coordination that goes into creating the Torch : U . S ., there is a lot of room for creative freedom and to show off your personal design style .

How to Prepare

The NJCL uses Joomag , so I ’ d recommend getting experience with it . There is a one-month turnaround after election to this office for the publication of the Fall Torch : U . S ., which is relatively quick . So the most important thing , if you can ’ t get access to Joomag , is to make sure you are comfortable with some graphic design platform — the skillset required for Joomag is transferable from many different platforms ( for example Canva ).
Otherwise , I ’ d recommend putting yourself out there at nationals ! This can be attending events like mixers and dances , or informally conversing with people as you walk around campus . JCLers are friendly , trust me , and I ’ m sure they ’ ll take some time out of their day to learn about your campaign .
