4. Don't stress yourself out and have fun. If you make a mistake, carry on!

The speech reflects you on all levels. If you aren't the funny type, then don't try to be overly-humorous. Let the voters know about your platform, or your goals and ideas. Be specific about them. Discuss some of your qualifications and background, but relate them to the position you are seeking.

Practice, or even memorize your speech so you are confidently familiar with it. "Salvete Omnes" is a nice, standard way to begin your speech, but consider spicing it up with something else!

Most people have a habit of talking quickly when nervous.
