Historian

ADVICE FOR HISTORIAN CANDIDATES

HISTORIAN'S MOST IMPORTANT DUTIES

HOW TO PREPARE FOR OFFICE

Your main duty is making the national scrapbook, so you want to make sure you have your materials and photos organized. You will also be judging Photo of the Month contest, (it's really fun to see what JCLers have been up to!). You will also be in charge of publicity for submissions and winners of the contest. Then, there are the other officer duties, such as planning meetings in the fall and spring and carrying out your own initiatives or projects as historian.

In order to be a good historian and do your scrapbook well, you have to know some graphic design. Skills in photo editing, video editing, and digital publication software are needed. Learn (or at least get some exposure to) Joomag, which is what we use in NJCL for publications. It has a learning curve but offers versatility. You can use Canva for specific graphics and ads, and it's particularly useful because there are a lot of templates available.

It is important that you know what’s allowed in terms of campaign rules and make sure your campaign materials are compliant with the guidelines. You will be asked to showcase your portfolio as a historian or your skills so be prepared for that. Finally, have a platform that you think can help our NJCL community.
