RACHEL NEWELL’S CORNER Welcome back to another year of California TSA! As your State Advisor, I oversee the workings of TSA in this state, plan and direct the State Conference, work with our fantastic State Officer Team, and serve as the link between our organization and National TSA. If any student, advisor, or entire chapter has any question, please do not hesitate to ask, I can always be reached at [email protected]. The start of the school year also marks the beginning of the TSA season. To officially become a member of California TSA, your school must register with National TSA. Once a chapter advisor completes this process, your school will gain access to the TSA event rulebook, leadership materials, and will officially be a part of the California TSA family! To learn more about the process, visit http://www.tsaweb.org/Affiliation-andDues. The drop down menu at the top of the National TSA website called “Join TSA” contains all of the links to begin registration, and instructions on how to do so. I would encourage all new chapters to apply for The Champion Fund- a grant that is offered by National TSA that covers the cost of registration for new schools. To learn more about this opportunity and apply for the fund for this school year, visit http://www.tsaweb.org/The-ChampionFund. Last year’s state conference was an incredible learning experience for our students, and we look forward to another engaging and rewarding conference this year. Our state membership has doubled from two years ago to this year, and our members have returned from the National TSA Conference this past summer with amazing memories and accomplishments. So mark your calendars - you will not want to miss this year’s National TSA Conference in Washington DC from June 27 to July 1, 2014. I am excited to work with so many passionate students and advisors, and I am confident this year in California TSA will be one for the history books. So get ready, the journey is just beginning! All the best, Rachel Newell
