HUGHSON FFA Elementary School Agriculture Day Submitted by Anthony Agueda Hughson is an agriculture community, and we provide our students with firsthand knowledge about our community culture and heritage at our annual agriculture day. For 26 years, Hughson FFA members have set up interactive booths at the elementary school for this event. Some include beekeeping, dairy, transplanting, horticulture, small engines, poultry, small animals, and more. We give the students opportunities to learn about the agriculture industry directly, while they try on beekeeping uniforms, feed newborn dairy calves, make personal flower arrangements, learn how to start engines, sit on tractors, and more. Every year we receive many positive remarks due to our efforts, and we enjoy seeing several local agricultural businesses in attendance as well. The beauty of this event is that it is different every year, because of our members’ varying interests in agriculture! IMPERIAL FFA 78th Annual Year-End Banquet MADERA FFA Submitted by Kennedy Pechtl Project Linus Partnership The Imperial FFA Chapter held its 78th annual end of the year awards banquet. The event was attended by over 300 guests made up of proud parents, Boosters, school staff, and the FFA members themselves. A large portion of the evening consisted of recognizing our Chapter’s achievements as well as our members’ accomplishments. This past year 70 students attended SLC, 25 went to GLC, 8 made it to MFE, 6 arrived at ALA, 1 experienced SLE, and 18 enthusiastic students attended State. 2018-2019 served to be a great year for our Chapter, but it would not have been possible without the continuous support we receive from our Boosters, community members, and parents. Submitted by Merary Hernandez Madera FFA recently partnered with the Fresno Chapter of the Linus Project to create blankets. The members sold donation cards in the community and were able to raise money to purchase materials to make blankets that will be given to homeless and children in need in the area. Members chose patterns and handmade 24 blankets one afternoon after school. The Linus Project delivers blankets to hospitals, shelters, social service agencies or anywhere that a child might be in need of comfort. The blankets made by Madera FFA will be given to children in the Madera and Fresno areas. { Continued on page 15 } California FFANEWS • PAGE 14 • Fall 2019
