Dear Members of California Country Club ,
I ’ d like to take this opportunity to inform you all of some of the details behind the unique situation we have been facing in recent months . Traditionally , approximately 40 % of CCC ’ s annual revenue is generated by tournaments and banquets . With these prohibited by the County of Los Angeles , we have suffered an enormous loss this year . It has only been your continued support , and the support of our newest members that has kept us alive . Since May 1 , 2020 , we have grown our membership by over 30 %. We ’ re very excited about this , because we believe that this growth will afford us certain opportunities that this Club has never experienced . We ’ re especially encouraged by the increased activity we are seeing at the Agave Grille .
One thing that we did not , and perhaps could not have anticipated , is the tremendous surge in the popularity of golf . Our existing members have been playing approximately 40 % more frequently than they had in 2019 . With the 10-minute tee time intervals imposed on us by LA County , we have 18 fewer tee times than we ’ d had before the COVID Pandemic . In addition , daylight hours have limited tee times for 18- hole rounds to something between 7 AM and 1 PM . This means that a maximum of 42 golfers can make a tee time for an 18-hole round in a single day . This is a maximum of 168 golfers , and that ’ s only if every tee time is a foursome .
We currently have 360 golf memberships . This is a fantastic position to be in as a private club . The unique difficulty at CCC lies in the fact that many of our members prefer to play four , five , or even more rounds each week . At four rounds a week , this would be 208 rounds a year . In 2019 , the average golfer in the United States played 18.2 rounds a year ! In the autumn of 2020 , rounds of golf nationally had increased by 20.6 %. Our members are playing much more frequently than the average American golfer , and we absolutely love this ! However , it has also made reserving tee times difficult for many of our members .
We want to thank you all for the immeasurable patience and kindness you ’ ve shown the Club throughout all this . If you have a special need or request , please feel free to talk with me or James Kim directly , and we will do everything within our power to assist you . However , please understand that some of the things we have been able to accommodate in past years , we ’ re not able to continue to do so until the current situation normalizes to some point . We ’ d also like to encourage you to be diligent in following CCC ’ s cancellation policy when you are unable to make a tee time you ’ ve booked . We will continue to adjust our systems and processes to provide you with a better experience , and we trust that you ’ ll continue to be patient and understanding of the current circumstances .
Sincerely ,

Timothy Gore
