Waugh, Devon
Devon Waugh is a Junior Journalism and English major from Wilton, Connecticut. She chose two poems by Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey and one poem by Sir Thomas Wyatt for their perspective that shows the downside of love. Although love offers its fair share of happiness, these speakers experience a whole range of emotions that leave them restless. These poems all have embittered speakers caught between love’s joys and its pains to form a fragmented subjectivity, an intriguing slant on a universal theme.
Xiong, Nalee
Nalee Xiong is a junior at UW-Madison. She enjoys reading and learning about life lessons, that is why the three poems she chose are about life knowledge. Commonplace books are meant to compile knowledge so others can read them and aid readers to remember these lines, or for the authors to go back and remember what they have learned. Therefore, Nalee believes her poems fit into our anthology because it will pass on knowledge to those who read it.
