Thankfully she was unsuccessful, and Cara decided that for the sake of her mental health
and the needs of her family, that she would immediately stop doing cakes and look for work
outside of the home. This also presented its own set of problems, with the inflexibility of
working for someone else being a hurdle that Cara and her family struggled to overcome.
After taking a ‘pause’ for 18 months, where she
did not so much as bake a cookie for her children,
Cara craved to return to the baking world. This time
was different however; she was going back to what
she loved most – baking. Though she had enjoyed
the notoriety that her and Andrew earned for their
sculpted cakes, the toll it had taken was not far from
her mind. Cara wanted to shift the focus back to
flavour instead of looks, and she felt that creating
delicious cupcakes was the way to do it. “Cupcakes
took me back to my roots, to my love of baking,”
Cara says with a smile.
