Session 500 4:15 PM–5:15 PM, FRIDAY 5-01 Forming Families of Faith; Tools of Catechesis for the Domestic Church – Skip Bacon The domestic church of the family is a model for all we do and are as church. During this workshop we will identify ways in which your community already empowers families as the domestic church and explore ways for strengthening your current means of empowerment. We will also discuss new tools of forming families of faith; from technology to Scripture, ancient wisdom to good food! (Word) 5-02 Share Your Faith: Help Others Come Alive in Christ – Father Kenneth Boyack, CSP This presentation will highlight key elements that equip Catholics to share their personal experience of faith in a powerful and effective way. The elements include the motivation to share faith, the content of the sharing, skills needed to communicate the Gospel effectively, and recognizing and overcoming fears. Participants will engage in a process of developing their own story of faith and discover how their faith is strengthened through sharing with others. (Witness) 5-03 Catechetical Lesson Planning for the Heart and Mind – Jared Dees To be effective as religious educators, we must inspire students not only to learn about God, but also to learn to love God. This makes catechetical lesson plans different from teaching anything else. Using a system he calls Lectio Divina Lesson Planning, Jared Dees will guide workshop attendees through a process of teaching the head and touching the heart. (Word) 5-04 Is That Really You God?” A guide to Prayer and Hearing God’s Voice – Lori Harris Help your students grow in their faith by learning how to discern His voice. Effective examples and ways to hear the voice of God and then learn to obey what He says. To have a relationship with God you need to listen. (Word) 5-05 The 5 Mysteries of Volunteering – How the Joyful Mysteries Show Us How to Serve – Deepu Kochuparambil Planning and executing lesson plans or being an adult presence to reach the ratio for youth ministry might be easy – but to serve in a way to allow others to encounter Christ is a bigger challenge. No prior knowledge of the Joyful Mysteries is required! (Witness) 5-06 Adults at the Center: Creating Communities that Engage Adults – Douglas Leal Adult formation goes beyond programs; in fact, the entire parish is an adult formation program. How do we create communities that engage and evangelize adults and young adults? Are our communities places that invite and encourage growth? We’ll examine current trends in society and the church and discuss ways to create not just welcoming communities, but truly transformational ones! (Witness) 5-07 The Mercy of Marriage in a Hookup World – Timothy O’Malley Young adults fall in love in a hookup world. The hookup isn’t just about sex. Instead, it’s a fear of real communion, sharing a life with another person, beyond the briefest physical encounter. In this session, we’ll explore the various characteristics of a hookup culture and why young adults participate in it. We’ll also turn to the sacrament of marriage, showing how the liturgical rite for this sacrament can serve as a medicine for a hookup culture. In marriage, we discover a restoration of communion that is fundamentally about friendship. (Witness) 16 5-08 Changing Lives, One Song at a Time – Anna Scally To effectively reach a culture, we must realize that the Church needs to focus on evangelization “not because we need more numbers,” but to let young people know they are appreciated and that their “gifts are important to building the Kingdom of God.” This may be easier to achieve when we realize that a significant key may lie in their music. Walk away with practical and achievable ways to make the Gospel relevant. Arrive ready to learn, laugh, and be inspired by the soundtrack of their heart. (Worship) 5-09 Relational Ministry – Christina Serma There are many ways of evangelizing: social media, mail, phone, TV, etc. We believe the most effective evangelization is done relationally: right there, one-on-one, face-to-face. This is a practical workshop designed to equip Catholics to share the good news of Jesus Christ wherever you go. This is not a workshop on apologetics- it will focus on relational evangelization. Workshop objectives: Learn to articulate the good news and to share your faith with anyone. (Witness) 5-10 Building Bridges of Hope in our Polarized World – Stephanie Luna Looking to find positive ways to minister in our polarized world? In this workshop we will look at ways we can be effective bridge building missionary disciples. We will also share resources from Maryknoll’s education program DiscoverYourNeighbor as a means of resourcing teachers & catechists to empower young people to live as missionary disciples. (Witness) 5-11 Finding Your Resurrection: The Paschal Mystery in Your Life Today – Sister Rose Marie Tulacz, SND The saints were sinners, but they radiated Jesus. Jesus will live where we are when we unite our suffering, dying, and rising with His. The Paschal Mystery transforms us so we become on fire with God’s love. What does it mean to find your resurrection? What waits to suffer and die in you, and how can we love one another in ways that midwife their resurrection? We are in the midst of a new paschal mystery: a dying, a rising, to give way to a new hope, a new evangelization. God is depending on us. By reflecting on our experiences in light of the scriptures through contemplative prayer, we come to find God in a deeper way. (Worship & Witness) 5-15 Called to be collaborators in the vineyard of the Lord: Liturgists, catechists, and musicians working together in the celebration of the Holy Mass – Jayne Ragasa-Mondoy and Deacon Modesto Cordero (Co-presenters) The liturgy is the best expression of the faith of the Christian community. It is in her that we celebrate the Paschal Mystery of Christ. The preparation and celebration of the Holy Mass require the work of many people (liturgists, catechists, musicians, cleric among others). We ask ourselves, how can the catechist, the liturgist and the musicians collaborate in the preparations for the Holy Mass? In this workshop, we will study the importance of working together with these ministers of the Church to achieve a better formation and celebration of the incomprehensible Mystery of God.. (Worship) 5-16 Holy Play, Act 2 (Part 2 of a 2) – Nancy Chinn If you can print your name, you can do this. Participants will produce their own banner by learning to use a knife to cut patterns in paper that create a light filled image. Material cost of $xx includes paper, (2 1/2′ x 4′) pattern, dowel and knife. This project can be shared by up to three people per banner. Those interested can stay past the working time to discuss creating larger projects. Hands on art project – limited space.
