I also vowed never to drive on the “wrong” side of the road again. So I enjoyed reading “The Great Scottish Road Trip” (Fall 2018)—about your writer’s well-planned journey. You really have to do your homework, and have someone fill you in on the customs, culture and mores of the country. —Eleanor D., WINNIPEG I took a trIp “the Great ScottISh road trIp” was another way to look at Scotland. Two years ago, I took a coach tour with CAA to England and Scotland, so I recognized most of the places the family in the article visited—but what a wonderful way to see Scotland and get your feet right on the ground. I so enjoyed the story. —Linda M., WINNIPEG a diFFerent reading I hope the article title “Cuba Libre” (Fall 2018) refers to the cocktail, because in no way can Cuba be considered free. It’s a one- party totalitarian state. A Cuban equivalent of an organization such as CAA would not be permitted to operate outside of government control, nor would a publication WATCH I couldn’t help but notice that your travel instructions to Fargo, North Dakota (“North of Normal”, Fall 2018) seemed odd. I believe it would take more like four hours to get to Fargo from Winnipeg, and should you take Route 59, you would travel west—not east—from Detroit Lakes. Otherwise, I do love all the beautiful pictures in the magazine and how you highlight our wonderful country! —Angela B., WINNIPEG Editor’s note: Thanks, Angela. You’re correct. Our compass must’ve been upside down when we wrote the direction to Fargo from Detroit Lakes. like CAA Manitoba Magazine be able to publish without being subject to state censorship. The Cuban people are wonderful, and travel to Cuba by tourists is a legitimate activity—as is CAA Travel engaging in business relations with the Cuban tourism industry. But let’s not imply that Cuba is somehow a free country. —Ostap S., WINNIPEG  Editor’s note: Thank you, Ostap, for your thoughtful note. Our headline was meant to play on the article’s theme of off-resort Cuban travel (i.e. you’re “free to roam”), but we can see how the title could be interpreted differently. It is certainly never our intent to minimize the political challenges of any destination profiled in the magazine.
