President’s MESSAGE WINTER 2018 Volume 10, Number 4 [email protected] Editor-in-Chief Kellie Davenport CAA Manitoba Managing Editors Lea Currie (on leave), Paddy McGee Associate Editor Craig Moy Contributing Editor Conan Tobias The FuTure is Now We’re always looking toward tomorrow to keep you safe today There’s no doubT that almost every industry has felt the effects of changing technology. Innovation helps make life easier for everyone—including those of us at CAA Manitoba. That’s why we’ve incorporated a variety of new tools and equipment into the ways we assist you every day, from requesting emergency roadside assistance to getting a quote on home insurance. We always keep our eye on emerging issues that will affect you. New vehicle safety features like collision detection and avoidance technology are becoming more mainstream. Built- in tools like backup cameras and lane-assist (which corrects a car if it starts to stray into the next lane), along with automatic braking and parallel parking, are increasingly available in basic models. But these technologies aren’t just nice to have—they may play a part in reducing collisions and making our roads safer for everyone. Geolocation tools, like Internet- connected mapping and GPS, are also becoming more widely available. That’s why we’re pleased to launch a new towing dispatch system that combines these precise GPS tools with the best of what we do, allowing us to complete your roadside assistance requests faster than ever. This system is the best product of its kind on the market, and is just another way that we’ve improved our services since merging with CAA South Central Ontario. 4 Winter 2018 CAA Manitoba We predict this system will help save you time and reduce the frustration of waiting on hold on the phone. It will improve our efficiency in serving you around the clock—during any season, anywhere in Manitoba and Ontario. It isn’t necessary for us to gaze into a crystal ball to know your lives are busy, and that having access to the services you might need anytime, anywhere makes everything easier. That’s just common sense—and one of the reasons we strive to make your experience better. We regularly look to the future to strategize so we can fulfill what you want and need now—and years from now. And we believe technology is key in helping bridge the gap between in-person customer service and getting information on the go. Rest assured that while we might be using new tools, we certainly have not forgotten our roots: making personal connections with our members. If you have any questions or need assistance, we’re always just an email, tweet, Facebook message or good old-fashioned phone call away.
