1. Vibrant extra-curricular activities for foreign students and staff to celebrate 2018 Tet holiday

On January 27th, 2018, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS – VNU) organized a trip to Soc Son for its international students and foreign staff.

This activity was organized on the occasion of the coming 2018 Tet holiday to build up the solidarity between international students and ULIS’s teachers. It was also a chance for foreign students and teachers to learn more about Vietnamese culture and time-tested beauty here.

Within only one day, foreign students and teachers visited Giong temple relic compound and Thanh Chuong domicile. The typical traditional Vietnamese

architecture and culture there made profound impression on ULIS international students and staff.

In addition, teachers and students took part in art performances to welcome the Lunar new year. All participants shared their feelings and emotions in the study time at ULIS. In the atmosphere of Tet holiday, foreign teachers and students extended their best wishes to one another.

The extra-curricular activities on the occasion of new year for foreign students, teachers and staff came to an end with many meaningful memories. As a university specializing in foreign languages, ULIS always pays special attention to international students, teachers and staff such as the organization of today trip. Without doubt, ULIS will continue to be the home of many international students and teachers.

2. Preliminarily wrap up the first stage of the implementation of the key state-level project on science and technology under the Northwest program

On February 7th, 2018, the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS – VNU) preliminarily wrap up the first stage of the implementation of the key state-level project on science and technology under the Northwest program.

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Trung presented preliminary results of the implementation of the first phase of the project. Notably, the project team has conducted surveys in some northwestern provinces, namely Dien Bien, Ha Giang, Lang Son, Lao Cai.

The demand for enhancing foreign language skills for civil servants and officials of Customs, Foreign Affairs, Tourism and Border Defense was highly recognized; however, there remain limitations in training. The team has also obtained valuable materials and developed products in five areas such as research on developing criteria and assessment toolkits to evaluate English and Chinese skills and the demand for using foreign languages of civil servants and officials of Customs, Foreign Affairs, Tourism and Border Defense; practical research of evaluating the ability to use foreign languages of civil servants of the Customs, Foreign Affairs, Tourism and Border Defense, etc.
