lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Pet 5:8) is the
warning from the Apostle Peter. Lot's family though
chosen by the Lord, gradually drifted away from
Him. In Genesis 13 we see that though the Lord
wanted to rescue them, they couldn't be rescued.
Love of money, lust of the flesh, fellowship with the
wicked made them spiral down to destruction.
Susanna Wesley, the mother of John Wesley
(popularly known as the Apostle of England), used
to pray daily for her 16 children with tears and by
laying her hands on them. They were all witnesses
to the Lord. Parents should not forget to pray for the
kids who are away from home due to their studies or
vocation.
We always need to prevent the entry of the
third person into the family. They may be our
friends, relatives, colleagues or helpers. Whoever it
might be, they should not cross their boundaries.
When they cross the limit, Satan uses them to spoil
the family just as he spoilt the first family in the
Garden of Eden. Our family is like a garden and we
need to set a hedge around it so that no intruders can
ever have unauthorised entry. We should not
hesitate to snip or even reject friends who try to
slither into our family. Let us be cautious and protect
our family from subtle intruders.
5. Family Worship
Heman was a worship leader. We read about
him in 1 Chronicles 25 th chapter. He was blessed
with 14 sons and 3 daughters (1 Chron 15:5,6). They
were all under the king's order to make music to the
Lord through different types of musical instruments
and were under the guidance of their father, Heman.
Serving and worshiping the Lord as a family is an
important spiritual training. For, this is the only
activity that we carry on to Heaven from this earth.
Shouldn't Heman be praised for bringing a glimpse
of Heaven here on earth through his efforts?

When a family prays together, we call it a
family altar. However, we see many a family
forsaking it though we pretty well know, “A family
that prays together, stays together”. The time
stipulated for family prayer should be honored by
each and every member of the family. It cannot be
compromised for the sake of relatives, work or
gadgets. When we fail to be diligent, family altar
disintegrates. Failing to honour the family altar has
pulled many Christian families away from God.
May we be watchful to worship the Lord as a family.
6. Taking Care of the Elders
Timothy was born of a cross cultural marriage.
The loving relationship in his family made him to
become one of the best ministers of God in the
world. When the elders in the family are respected
and taken care of, it instills good values in the
children.
Corban (mentioned in Mark 7 and Mathew 15)
releases the children from their moral responsibility
to their parents. Let us avoid corbans in our life. We
should not only send money and other essentials, to
our parents but also lovingly spend quality time
with them especially when they become old and
immobile. We should try to give the best medical
care and be patient with them. One middle aged man
treated his father badly and gave him food in an ugly
earthen bowl. When the old man passed away, his
grand son washed the ugly bowl and kept it safe. He
told his father, “I am preserving the bowl for your
old age.” Dear friends, mark this lesson. Let us
therefore, be watchful in developing family
relationships by spending quality time with our
parents and siblings.
7. Taking Decisions Together
It is of utmost importance that the husband and
wife be yoked together. Aquila and Priscilla, the
ministerial partners of the apostle Paul are a classic
