budgeting in Luke chapter 14:
Luk 14:28 “For which of you, desiring to build a
tower, does not first sit down and count the cost,
whether he has enough to complete it?”
Before buying anything, as husband and wife,
we need to sit and calculate whether it is possible
within the reach of our budget. We should not go for
unnecessary loans. When there is an emergency need
like medical treatment, children's education and
marriage, loans are helpful. Receiving loans for
family tour, going to the hotels, buying costly
apparels and the like should be avoided.
not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth
destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your
heart be also.”
We need to live a life of testimony. Gentiles
think that we are evil-doers. Many believe that
Christians receive funding from abroad. In India we
have FCRA (Foreign Contributions Regulatory Act)
through which all the funding from abroad is
regulated. Many organizations utilize the funds
sincerely. But many others do not. This is one of the
main reasons because of which the name of our Lord
is defamed in our country.
When we live in a rented house, we think twice
to spend for the maintenance even though it would be
a meagre amount. We argue that it is not “our own
house” and that we may not stay there permanently.
Apostle Peter encourages us to live as 'sojourners'
and 'exiles.' At any moment of time our end may
come or Jesus would come. How much more careful
should we live then?
1 Pet 1:17 “And if you call on him as Father who
judges impartially according to each one's deeds,
conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of
your exile.”
1Pe 2:11,12 “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and
exiles ....”
When we realize that Jesus is going to come soon, we
will be more faithful in financial matters. We will not
receive bribes, write false accounts, or unjustly
occupy others' properties. Nor will we run after
earthly possessions.
2 Tim 3:1,2 “But understand this, that in the last
days there will come times of difficulty. For people
will be lovers of self, lovers of money…”
Luke 12:40 - “You also must be ready, for the Son of
Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
Luk 12:33,34 “Sell your possessions, and give to the
needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do
not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does
Just like we eagerly wait for our children to
come home at an appointed time, let us wait for the
Lord's Second Coming.
Practical Areas of Integrity
In Family
1. Pay-slip should be known to both husband and
wife. Grown up children should also know about the
net income in the family.
2. Borrowing and lending without the knowledge
of the spouse should be avoided. If both the husband
and wife are working, then they need to pool-in both
their incomes and spend.
3. Husband or wife should not say 'It is my money.'
Let us not maintain two different accounts and let us
not maintain a secret account. Let both husband and
