as a contingency. Instead of trusting God for the
future, they put their hope on money. We all know
what happened in the end. They both fell dead. This
was the first sin in the early church.
We need to put our trust in God's Word and His
providence. We should not put our trust in our
savings and bank balances. If we lack this kind of
faith, we may follow fraudulent means to earn
money. Lack of faith will result in the failure of
integrity in finances.
We have read about the rich young man who
wanted to inherit Eternal Life. When Jesus asked the
young man to sell all his possessions and give it to the
poor, he went away heavy-hearted. He was not
willing to sacrifice his wealth for eternal life. He was
willing to give up eternal life for the sake of worldly
possessions (Mat 19:16-22). What a tragedy?
you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power
and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to
give strength to all.”
Riches and honor come from God. Many today
complain, 'Brother, in my field of work, if I serve
with integrity, I can never come up.' No beloved!, the
Word of God says that riches come from God. We
cannot manipulate and earn money by hook or crook.
See how earnestly David prayed to the Lord
and attributed everything to the Lord and glorified
Him.
The Bible teaches us that we should not set our
hearts on riches even if they increase.
Psa 62:10 “If riches increase, set not your heart on
them.”
Again we find Apostle Paul encouraging
Timothy to charge the rich not to put their hope in the
riches.
There is nothing wrong in being rich but we
need to be careful lest we put our hope in riches. We
find that God blessed king Jehoshaphat because he
sought the Lord (2 Chro 17: 3-5). We also find that
Job was blessed by God abundantly (Job 1:1). We
find that the disciple of Jesus, Joseph of Arimathea
was a rich man (Mat 27:57).
Note how David treated riches and wealth:
1 Chro 29:12 “Both riches and honor come from
1Chro 29:14-16 - “But who am I, and what is my
people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly?
For all things come from you, and of your own have
we given you. For we are strangers before you and
sojourners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the
earth are like a shadow, and there is no abiding. O
Lord our God, all this abundance that we have
provided for building you a house for your holy name
comes from your hand and is all your own.”
3. Discontentment
Discontentment is another reason why we fail
in financial integrity. When we started our spiritual
journey, it was a humble beginning. But as the years
rolled by we became increasingly discontented.
There were times in my own life when it was very
hard to get food everyday. After the necessity of food

1 Tim 6:17 - 19 “ As for the rich in this present age,
charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes
on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly
provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do
good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and
ready to share, thus storing up treasure for
themselves as a good foundation for the future, so
that they may take hold of that which is truly life.”
