AUGUST 2018 Let us maintain a distance with the opposite gender. If you feel tempted in your office, better change your desk or room. We need to preserve our holiness. We may face temporary problems when we take a stand like that of Joseph. But God will be our strength and refuge. 4) Balancing Work and Spiritual Life Pro 24:21 “My son, fear the Lord and the king.” Mat 22: 21 - “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” We should know how to prioritize our spiritual life and work. We must give our best to the Lord. We need to give the first hours to the Lord. Let us not read the Bible during office working hours. We can read the Bible during the lunch hours. We need to do our jobs during office hours and we need to read the Bible during the first hours of the day. Beloved, we need to follow the Bible. We cannot follow the crowd or even our higher officials. We need to stand for Biblical values. When we don't prioritise, we miss God's blessings in our life. Many complain that the money they earn does not stay in their hands. How can this be? The Bible gives the answer: Hag 1:9 -“You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? declares the Lord of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house.” When we lose our priority for the Kingdom of God, He cannot bless us. 5) Integrity In Business Life And finally, I want to give some practical suggestions on how we can lead a life of integrity in business. There are so many challenges in business. If we are in business, we can understand the difficulty in facing the various challenges it poses for a life of integrity. There are four challenges in every business of which I want to give some suggestions. 1. Truthfulness M a n y, e s p e c i a l l y t e a c h e r s a n d m e d i c a l professionals, apart from working during the office hours, they also practice after coming home. Such things should be avoided. We should give sufficient time to our families. I know a believer who lived like this and finally lost his family. He was only concerned about money and not his family. So let us avoid extremes. Note how the Bible warns: Prov 23:4 “Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist.” My wife is a Doctor. When we got married, she was practicing in a Primary Health Centre. It was a hectic schedule and she was busy with her job. I suggested her that since I too will be out of station for the sake of ministry, we need not over-work. And she joyfully obliged. I knew a businessman who ran agrocery shop. He was a first generation Christian. He led a life of impeccable integrity. He always used right balances (Pro 11:16 , 28:6). He kept a low profit margin. It was for this reason, he was never afraid of any raids by any departments from the Government. He was very clean in keeping the accounts. People who are in business need to follow him. Let us maintain clean track record of all our transactions. 2. Quality We need to maintain the quality of the products that we sell. Only then will our products will gain a good reputation (Ecc 7:1). Gaining a bad-reputation is very easy but we need to build our brand by providing quality job or product. Let us not adulterate or sell duplicate products. 3. Competition We live in a competitive world. We find many products that are given as free. In order to beat the page 06
